Jenn Lyons epische Fantasy-Reihe bietet eine Menge Potenzial dafür, geliebt und gehasst zu werden: Überwältigende Magie und gigantomanisches Worldbuiling, aber der Tonfall ist alles andere als ehrwürdig, und der junge Held Kihrin interessiert sich oft mehr für seine sexuellen Irrungen und Wirrungen als für das Schicksal der Welt und bringt all den Göttern, Imperatoren und Drachen, die ihm über den Weg laufen, etwa so viel Respekt entgegen wie ein durschnittlicher Fünfzehnjähriger seinem Mathelehrer. Das alles wird mit Lust durch die Action- und Tempomühle gedreht, aber dafür muss man dann auch mit einer eigenwilligen Erzählperspektive, zwei Zeitebenen und fiesestem Intrigenspiel klarkommen. Liebe ich es oder hasse ich es? Ich sage mal: Ich lese es und es rockt mich, nicht immer nur auf die gute Art, aber ein Erlebnis ist es allemal!

Jenn Lyon's epic fantasy series has a lot of potential to be loved or loathed: Stunning magic and gigantomaniac world-building, but the voice of the book is far from dignified, and the yound hero Kihrin is often more interested in his sexual trials and tribulations than in the fate of the world and has about as much respect for all the gods, emperors and dragons he meets as you would expect from an average fifteen-year old towards his math teacher. All that is put through the relentless-action-mill with abandon, while on the other hand, you have to keep up with idiosyncrativ narrative devices and a lot of nasty intrigue and wire-pulling. So, do I love it or do I loathe it? Let's just say I'm reading it and it rocks my boat, not always in a good, but always in a notable way! [Jakob]
